Patent Leather Handbag: How to Make
Your Own
Sure you could head out and get a patent
leather handbag but why spend a fortune on an Italian leather
handbag when you could just get the materials and make your
very own? This is not only great because you can save some
money but as well you can personalize the bag and make it your
own. Maybe you want a certain amount of pockets or some kind of
embellishment on the outside of the bag, either way you can do
what you want when you make it yourself.
If you want to make your own patent leather handbag there
are a few steps that you are going to have to follow.
Getting Started
Making your own leather bag does not have to be nearly as
difficult as you may think at first. To make your own patent
leather handbag, you are going to need to start by gathering
together the different materials that you are going to need.
Once you are ready you need to cut the fabric into three equal
sections and these are going to make up the front, back and
flap of the purse.
Now the next step in making your patent leather handbag is
to tape the edges of the section that was cut for the strap and
then you cut 2 inches from one side at a 45-degree angle and
then you want to trim the tapered ends into a rounded shape.
This is going to give a nicer look to the bag and make sure
that it looks finished.
Next place the front and back pieces on top of each
other with the right sides together, and then you sew about a
¼-inch hem around the pieces of the purse to connect them
together. Now you will have a square pouch shape. If you find
that at this point in the process the purse is a different
shape, you will want to go back to the beginning and then start
over.
Now you want to find the middle width of the purse and
figure out where you want to put the snap. This is going to be
the closure for your patent leather handbag, so be careful with
where you choose to place it. Finally, when everything is sewn
together you just need to worry about putting any
embellishments on the outside if you are so inclined. Otherwise
the purse is finished and ready to wear out for a night on the
town.
